Orange Vanilla Dream Scene Below....

This time Taylor booked their appointment at the spa. It was a golden summer day, but with a perfect, warm breeze; the exact right kind of day to go to a spa and then spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing by a pool. She and Avery both had all day Tuesday off—since they both usually worked on the weekends, if at all possible, they both tried to have Tuesdays off so they could spend it together. So she’d booked them a surprise spa appointment, at the spa her friend Erica worked at, and Erica had come through with a discount. She’d scheduled them massages first, and then the plan was for them to spend the rest of the day relaxing by the pool in lounge chairs, drinking delicious drinks and enjoying the sun and each other. It was exactly what they both needed after working so hard lately. And it was especially what Avery needed; Avery had gotten better about this, but she still wasn’t great at taking time for herself and learning how to relax. Luckily, Taylor—not to brag—was an expert at that, as well as plenty of other things.

“Where are we going?” Avery asked when she got in Taylor’s car, as usual.

“Hello to you too,” Taylor said, as she leaned over for a kiss.

Avery kissed her back and laughed.

“Yes yes, hello hello, and also, where are we going?”

As usual, Taylor just grinned at her and said nothing. They were going to a different spa this time than they’d done before, so their route wouldn’t be a tip off for Avery. Avery teased her for answers the whole way there, and squealed when they finally entered the grounds of the resort.

“What are we here for?!” she asked.

Taylor parked the car, and grabbed the bags she’d packed from them from the trunk.

“Let’s go find out.”

As soon as Avery saw that they were walking toward the spa, she grabbed Taylor around the waist and gave her a huge hug. Taylor grinned and kissed her hard on the cheek.

“It’s the spa, isn’t it? Oh my God, I’m so excited, this place has the best spa. I mean, I’ve never been, but I’ve heard that. And the best part is that you get full access to the pool for the rest of the day. I’ve been dying for a good pool day to just relax by the pool and read and pretend my phone doesn’t exist.” She bit her lip. “Oh no.”

Wait, why was Avery saying oh no? Had Taylor forgotten something? Did Avery have a work thing she needed to do and they couldn’t spend all day here?

“What’s wrong?” Taylor asked.

Avery shook her head.

“It’s not a big deal, it’s just that I’m in the middle of the perfect book for a pool day, but I left it—”

Taylor reached into Avery’s bag, and pulled out the stack of books that had been on Avery’s nightstand.

“Is it one of these?” she asked.

Avery gasped, grabbed one of the books and hugged it, then gave Taylor an even bigger hug.

“You think of everything.”

They checked into the spa, spent an hour or so going in between the steam room, sauna, cold plunge, and hot tub, and then they had their massages. They met back up by the pool; Taylor had secured lounge chairs for them in the perfect spot, by the corner of the pool, with an umbrella giving shade to one of the lounge chairs (Avery’s) and with mostly sun on the other chair (Taylor’s). The great thing about opposites attracting was that it was very easy for them to figure out who sat where in situations like this. Avery got in her lounge chair and picked up the ice cold drink sitting on the little table next to them.

“That massage was incredible. Just what I needed,” she said. She took a sip of her drink. Her eyes got big. “Oooh, what’s this drink? It tastes like a…creamsicle?”

Taylor picked up her own drink and tapped her glass against Avery’s.

“It’s the new Liquid I.V. flavor: Orange Vanilla Dream. I figured we’d need some extra hydration after a massage, and if we’re going to be in the sun all day. And I’m glad you like it too—it tastes just like those popsicles my grandma always used to have in her freezer in the summer, with orange and vanilla ice cream.”

Avery took another sip and smiled.

“I love that,” she said. “How does it manage to taste so creamy?” She shook her head. “You know what it doesn’t matter, I’m just happy I have it.” She picked up her book, lay all the way back in her lounge chair, and sighed with contentment. “What a perfect day,” she said. “I feel like I’m going to wake up tomorrow and this is all going to be a dream.”

Taylor took a sip of her drink and reached for Avery’s hand.

“Every day feels like a dream when I’m with you,” she said. Oh God, did she really say that? She made a face. “Please never tell anyone I said anything that disgustingly sweet, what is wrong with me?”

Avery squeezed Taylor’s hand.

“Your secret is safe with me,” she said.

Taylor sighed contentedly and opened her eyes. Oh no, that had all been a very excellent dream. She smiled at Avery, curled up next to her in bed. Okay, that did it. By the end of the day, she’d make them a spa appointment.
