At our core, we believe that a healthier world for all begins with clean and abundant water. Because of this, each year we’ve prioritized building a net positive business that allows us to connect with global and domestic changemakers. Together, we’re able to fund organizations and those who are creating solutions, educating, and expanding access to clean water. Last year, we were able to invest $1.3 million in three organizations. In 2023, Liquid I.V. invested $1.85 million in five grant recipients who are committed to building projects in 2024 and innovate the landscape of clean water access.

Our goal is to expand access to clean and abundant water for communities in need, accelerating solutions for the 771M people globally (and 2M in the U.S.A.) who do not have access to clean drinking water. These organizations align our passion with their expertise to create durable impact for communities worldwide, and we continue to find multiple opportunities to hand the mic over to these subject matter experts and leaders in the field.

Below, find information about the five organizations and their initiatives for the coming year and beyond.

DigDeep: Closing the Domestic Water Access Gap

Our commitment to equitable water access has led us to support incredible organizations like DigDeep, a human rights organization working to bring clean, running water to families in the United States. We’re proud to recognize DigDeep as one of our first water access partners.

DigDeep’s goal is to ensure safe, reliable, accessible, affordable, and non-discriminatory access to water and wastewater services for all people. Last year, we were proud to support DigDeep's community-led Appalachia Water Project as they helped over 600 community members get connected to clean, running water. This year, we are thrilled to provide an investment of more than $600K to close the water gap across all three of DigDeep's community-led projects: the Navajo Water Project (AZ, UT, NM), the Appalachia Water Project (WV, KY), and the Colonias Water Project (TX).

Specifically, these funds help to address the following:

Navajo Water Project (Navajo Nation)

  • Installing Home Water Systems (DigDeep’s off-grid solution that brings and hot and cold running water to homes without access to water or sewer lines)

  • Supporting waterline connections to homes with the capability of being connected to centralized water systems and provide homesite lease assistance to households

  • Bringing wastewater solutions to households through septic installations, repair and cleanings, expanding upon our 2022 septic pilot program in New Mexico

Appalachia Water Project (West Virginia)

  • Implementing piped water connections for households by replacing utility lines and extending waterlines to homes in McDowell and Wyoming Counties

  • Extending sewer lines

  • Piloting off-grid septic systems

Colonias Water Project (El Paso, TX)

  • Laying the groundwork for Phase Two of DigDeep’s Colonias Water Project to bring infrastructure in five colonias over a two-year period

“We are honored by Liquid I.V.'s commitment to DigDeep and the communities we serve. Liquid I.V. has been a dedicated partner, beginning with their support of our work to increase water access and sanitation in Appalachia, and now growing to support our work on the Navajo Nation and in the Texas colonias. Their generosity not only increases the impact that we can make in households affected by the water access gap across the U.S., but in raising awareness for this critical issue.”— George McGraw, founder and CEO of DigDeep

More on DigDeep: DigDeep is a human rights nonprofit working to ensure every American has access to clean running water and sanitation. Its community-led and region-specific solutions have helped install clean running water inside hundreds of homes through its award-winning projects.

##Mothers of the Amazon: Water Towers for the Region of Praia Do Carapana (Brazil)

We are thrilled for our new partnership with Mothers of the Amazon this year. We have provided $200K in a grant investment to support their continued work on protecting Indigenous Peoples’ communities. These funds will be used to provide water access and wastewater management to several Huni Kuin villages in the Paraia do Carapana region, an indigenous territory in the Amazonian state of Acre, Brazil. This program will bring a sustainable solution to the water access challenges that these communities have historically faced, improving their health and overall quality of life. Specifically, the grant will address the following:

  • Construction of at least 7 water towers

  • Each one composed of tanks, washing facilities (sinks) showers, wastewater collection system, and wastewater treatment performed in banana tree circles

  • Work with the local community to monitor, test and report on water quality and soil health

  • Provide training for adoption and maintenance of the water towers

“Mothers of the Amazon is thrilled to embark together with Liquid I.V. on this journey to improve the lives of our forest guardians. This partnership will bring access to clean water and sanitation to some of the most vulnerable Indigenous communities in the Amazon rainforest. Protecting the health of Indigenous communities who are at the forefront of the defense of the largest rainforest in the world is one of the most effective climate actions we can take together. Where Indigenous Peoples thrive, so does nature.”— Bane Saleh, Founder & Co-director, Mothers of the Amazon

More on Mothers of the Amazon: We recognize that the health of our planet and the future of our children relies intrinsically on the protection of the Amazon rainforest and those who defend it. We work directly with indigenous leaders and institutions on community development, focusing on critical initiatives that improve indigenous health, protect and restore land, and preserve indigenous culture.

##MAP International: Water Access Initiatives in Burkina Faso and Liberia

MAP International is one of our major product donation partners, having distributed 6.8 million servings of Liquid I.V. since our partnership began in 2020. But while we initially partnered with them to distribute ORS across the globe, our support has extended beyond hydration aid. This year, we provided investments of $500,000 for sustainable access to clean water through hand and solar pumps. These life-saving apparatuses will be built in some of the most remote and hard to-reach areas with high numbers of vulnerable and marginalized populations in Liberia and Burkina Faso.

“This grant will profoundly impact communities and lives throughout West Africa. Because of companies like Liquid I.V. and partnerships like this, lasting and sustainable change can occur. Access to clean water and quality [support], like the Liquid I.V. sticks, is a powerful combination of saving and transforming lives.”  —Steve Stirling, MAP International President and CEO

More on MAP International: MAP International is a leading global non-profit humanitarian organization whose goal is to provide medicine for all people. With a strong legacy of humanitarian service spanning nearly 70 years, MAP International continues to evolve and innovate in its mission to make the world a better place for everyone across the globe.

##Water For People: Clean Water and Sanitation for all in Rwanda

We also provided an investment of $300K, which will serve as financial support for Water For People’s plans in Rwanda, and to help the government with water and sanitation staff and private water operators on planning. Specifically, the funds will address the following:

  • Rehabilitate or complete new piped or pumped water systems

  • Complete water and sanitation interventions in schools and health clinics

  • Support Rulindo District to install new pumps and inspect pumping stations

  • Rehabilitate water systems in three districts participating in the Isoko y’Ubuzima consortium project

  • Conduct training on basic operation and maintenance of completed WASH infrastructure

“Water For People is very excited about our new partnership launch with Liquid I.V., which represents a shared vision and commitment to making a positive impact. We appreciate their generosity; it will help us continue to make a meaningful impact in our journey to ensure sustainable access to safe water and sanitation for all.”— Co-CEO Samson Hailu Bekele

More on Water For People: Water For People is an international nonprofit motivated by the belief that water is a human right. Our goal is to bring water, sanitation, and hygiene services to everyone, and to make sure those solutions last forever. We spend years, not days, in districts – working until every family, clinic, and school has safe, reliable water and sanitation services.

##Save the Children: Improving Access to Safe and Reliable Fresh Water in Hafun, Somalia

This year, we invested in Save the Children and their various initiatives through a grant of $350K. These funds will be used to provide reliable and sustained access to safe drinking water and to strengthen the capacity of community led ‘Water Management Committees’ in Hafun, Somalia. Specifically, the grant will foster the following:

  • Increased access to safe and potable water—at least 15 litres per person per day—by expanding the water distribution system of a new solar desalination plant

  • Supporting the community to manage the plant themselves, ensuring it is operational long into the future.

  • Increasing knowledge within the community about the power of handwashing and good hygiene to reduce the spread of disease and support a healthy future for children and families.

“In the face of persistent droughts in the region over the past few years, this project has shifted the landscape for the local community of Hafun, which previously relied on distant water sources that often came with health or life-threatening risks. This project goes beyond elevating living standards of the community; it symbolizes a profound shift, providing a free, fresh, and safe water supply. The partnership with Liquid I.V. has been instrumental in improving the lives of the community, creating a ripple effect that echoes through health, resilience, and the promise of a better future for all those we impact.”— Mohamed Abdulkadir Said, Save the Children Area Representative in Puntland, Somalia

More on Save the Children: Save the Children exists to help every child get the chance of a future they deserve.  In more than 100 countries we help children stay safe, healthy and learning – finding new ways to reach children who need us most. We lead the way on tackling big problems like child pneumonia, hunger and protecting children in war, while making sure each child’s unique needs are cared for.

Liquid I.V.'s approach to expanding water security is driven by the values of community empowerment, innovation, and equity to create long-lasting, sustainable impact. These grants mark an exciting next chapter for our Impact work, which couldn’t be done without the support of our Liquid I.V. community.
