The LIV-Approved Sustainability Cheat Sheet

The LIV-Approved Sustainability Cheat Sheet

Published September 17th, 2021

Changing The World also means Changing The Planet. Recently, we've made some changes that have reduced our footprint—from shifting our packaging to lighter easy-tear sticks, to optimizing the way we deliver LIV to your doorstep, to designing LIV HQ with energy efficiency in mind. In honor of the global Climate Week conference in NYC this week, we're sharing a few ways you can follow our lead and make a positive impact. Keep reading for our LIV-approved sustainability hacks.

Transforming Transportation

This year, we've reduced our transportation-related carbon footprint 60% by maximizing what we ship in every truck we send out. We also choose the most efficient routes and the most sustainable carriers in order to minimize fuel. Here are some simple ways to cut down on your own transportation emissions:

  • For shorter trips, try biking, walking, skateboarding, or scootering. Exercise and eco-friendliness can go hand in hand.
  • Plan, plan, plan. On days when you’ve got multiple errands to run, optimize your route so you’re not backtracking around town.
  • Take public transportation or carpool with a friend. BONUS: this gives you a break from driving and a chance to catch up.

Weaning Off Waste

We've recently shifted our packaging to lighter, easy-tear sticks, which cut down 17% on our packaging-related carbon footprint. Here are three easy ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle at home:

  • Say "no thank you" to single-use bags, drink containers, utensils, and straws when offered. Instead, carry your own reusable utensil set, straw, water bottles, and tote bag. That iced coffee will taste just as good with a metal straw.
  • Go digital. Opt to get your bills delivered electronically, and have your receipts emailed instead of printed at a store that offers the option.
  • Buy secondhand goods on Facebook Marketplace or at Goodwill, and drop off old items at your local donation bin.

Home Environment

Last year, we moved LIV HQ to an energy efficient, LEED®Silver Certified workplace, with roofing and glazing systems to reduce heat and cut down air conditioning, office equipment with 90% lower energy usage, and water fixtures with 46% water saving potential. Here are three ways to optimize energy usage at your own HQ:

  • Unplug your electronic devices when not in use. Think: fully-charged laptops, lamps in rooms that have overhead lights, printers, coffee machines, smoothie makers, and even your Alexa.
  • Save thousands of gallons of water every year with a water-efficient showerhead.
  • Using ceiling fans instead of air conditioners will decrease your cooling costs as well as your footprint.

Making small, sustainable changes can have an enormous impact on the environment—if we do it together. Have a Climate Week tip we didn’t mention? Let us know in the comments.
